First Spanish Scutarii Infantry

After a couple of slow weeks on the painting front, i was finally able to finish the first of my Spanish Scutarii infantry.
The models are from Crusader Miniatures, and i even got the shield transfers.
I have painted the shields on them but the next 12 models in this unit will have shield transfers on them.

Numidian Cavalry

During the 2nd Punic war Hannibal used the skilled horsemen from Numidia to great effect.
And during the battle of Cannae he was able to to defeat the Roman cavalry and driving them of the field, and then attack the Roman infantry in the back killing almost 50000 Romans.

 

Here are the first unit of my Numidian cavalry from Warlord Games.

The slingers are done now so its just to start over again with some thing new....
For you that dont now so am i trying to build myself an carthaginian army before summer...

Balearic Slingers

As soon as i read the army list for Carthage in the Hail-Caesar book Biblical & Classical army lists,
i became interested in the Balearic slingers.
I started to search on the net for any thing on Balearic slingers and i found out that they we´re one of the best slingers in the ancient world.

 Livy also mentions the most famous of ancient skillful slingers: the people of the Balearic Islands. Of these people Strabo writes: And their training in the use of slings used to be such, from childhood up, that they would not so much as give bread to their children unless they first hit it with the sling.

More Stuff

Got some more stuff in the mail a few days ago, and now after i have assembled and painted 48 of my libyan heavy infantry its time to get the new stuff out.
It can get very boring just to paint the same models over and over soo a need a break from my libyans.

 

I ordered a Celtic cavalry unit, and a Numidian cavalry unit, and a blister of Balearic slingers

 

 

 

I think i start with the Balearic slingers....

Libyan Heavy Infantry Unit

During the week i have been busy painting my on my Carthaginian,and i am now finally done with the first  unit :)

First Painted Libyan Heavy Infantry

I have now assembled and painted some of my Libyan heavy infantry.
The models are from the box of Mercenary armoured hoplites from Victrix, and the shield transfers i orderd from crusader miniature.
The only problem with the transfers is that they are made to fit the shield of the Carthaginian models from crusader miniatures not the Victrix ones, soo they are a bit small...

 

As you can see the shield look ok from this range...

 

 

But here you can see that they are to small :(

Allied Celtic Warband

I am finally done with the painting of my Allied Celtic warband.
I thinks its much harder to paint celts then to paint other army´s for the celts got lots of different colors on them.
Three of the celts got bear skin on there backs made of green stuff just to make this Celtic unit different then my first painted Celtic unit.
33 models in total and i think they turned out ok.... what do you think?

Small update

Got some stuff in the mail today :)
it was my order from Victrix... two boxes of Mercenary armoured hoplites
96 miniatures more to paint...

 

and im almost done with one more Celtic warband, got the bases and the shield left to do.

Carthaginian Commander

Go my first shipment of miniatures from Crusader Miniatures, and the Biblical & Classical army list rule book from Warlord games last weekend.
During this week i got time to paint a Carthaginian commander and 19 Celtic warriors... not a bad start :)

Punic Wars

Hello again

For a couple of months now i have not painted any miniature or made model terrain for i have been
playing computer games.....
But after i got the computer game: Rome Total War 2   me and my buddy Tim got together and played a game of Hail-Cesar from Warlord games.
After the game me and Tim was keen on playing some more Hail-Cesar and it was then that i got the idea of starting a carthaginian army.

I started by ordering two boxes of Mercenary Armoured Hoplites from Victrix and some miniatures from Crusaider Miniatures.

I have started to build on my old Roman Fort while i wait form my new minis....
I started to build the Roman Fort back in 2011 soo it has been a while....
Hope you like the Fort soo far.

 

You can open and close the door to the Fort.

 

 

As you can see the Tower ontop of the gate is not ready.

 

 

And the Fort need some static grass flock to :)

Ambush 52 BC Gaul

I have now played my first game of Hail-Ceasar.
The scenario is that an advanced force of julius Ceasars army in Gaul is ambushed when moving in  heavy wooded area in Gaul by a smaller force of Celts.

Roman Army

1 Celtic Fanatic Warband
1 Skirmishers with bows

The Roman Commander and 3 Roman legionary Cohorts are in the middle of the map and in marsh column.
The Celts are hidden behind the woods.
The Celts have the first turn and as soon the Romans spot them in there turn they can call for reinforcements.

The Celts start to move out from behind the woods and the Romans call for help

Unlucky for the Celtic Cheiftan is that only 2 of his Warbands can move in the first turn

The Roman Commands order 2 of his Cohorts to move to the left side and last on to stay and guard there flank.

The Roman Reinforcements arrive.

One of the Celtic Warband that could move in the first turn charge the Roman rearguard and almost rout them from the field of battle.

The Romans now charge the Celtic Warband on the left side and push i back

The Celtic Skirmishers with bows start to shot on the Roman reinforcements and rolls two 6s and the Romans have to roll a break test but is able to hold ground.

The Celtic Warband that charged the Roman rear guard kills of the last Romans of that Cohort.

The 2 Roman Veteran Cohorts advance up in the middle of the map to stop the advance of the Celts.

The Celtic Warband on the left side on the map is slowly being pushed back by the Romans.

The Celtic Fanatics can now see the approaching Roman Veterans and the charge strait down the middle of the map in a Frenzied Charge ( 3 moves) and leave it support far behind.

The lack of comunication between the diffrent Celtic Warbands is now starting to be a problem for the Celts as all of the Celts in combat have to fight without support and the casualties are mounting.

The Romans now kills of the last Celts on the left side and turn to attack the Skirmishers from two sides

The Fanatics push the 2 Veteran Cohort back by sheer force of will.

The Romans kill the Skirmisher with ease and starts to move all of its Cohort into the middle of the map to finish of the Celtic Fanatis and remaining Warbands.

After have been fighting a loosing battle the last of the Fanatics i killed and the Celtic Cheiftans blow his horn and sounds for retreat.

The Roman General stands in the middle of the field of battle and watch as the Celts run for there lives.

Another great day for Rome.
